Monmouth Choral Society
Conducted by Steven Kings with The Regency Sinfonia
Very few musical works can claim to be the greatest of all, but Bach’s Matthew Passion is surely one of them. Huge in structure and scope, mixing high drama with profound devotion, and expressing a whole range of events and emotions in music of breath-taking vividness and sophistication. It brings together six soloists, a double choir and a double orchestra, often sounding antiphonally (as if in stereo), and draws us into its narrative with irresistible force.
